My thoughts on the project, one month later

It's been about a month since I deployed this web-app. The initial intention was to push me to continually work on coding projects to add here, and more importantly not to break spirit and abandon them.

The Good

The good thing is that the initial objective has clearly been met. I've worked continually on improvements and new features to this website, which I wouldn't have - or would have done more slowly - had it not been public.

In the last month I've deployed improvements to the navigation, layout, SEO, as well as released content to give the website a purpose. I am definitely meandering through the initial roadmap released back in December 24 (see the Website project page), and getting intrusive ideas to add things that weren't even on it in the first place, but that's fine. Once again this is a fun project and this meandering is part of the fun.

The Bad

The one issue I've noted is that this project makes it difficult to work on different frameworks. For instance, I don't really have any incentive to build Node.js apps, or to work with micro-computers, even though this is something I'd like to do. I think I'll find a compromise where I will post about it without necessarily having a lot of interactive elements to show on this website.

What next?

User authentication is currently prototyped, but will need some time to be polished enough for a release. I also plan on making a route builder so I can run a SiteMap. Beyond this I expect a lull in updates, as I'd like to work on Node.js / micro-computers. I'd also like to delve into game design - which could be hosted here but will take time to code.

All in all, I'm very happy with how the public web-app has worked out. I would stongly recommend for anyone to try this, as I found the action of deploying an app to be a really efficient motivator. Sure, the vast majority of the views in the Analytics section below are from bots, but for me it's still enough to give me third party pressure to do the work. Besides, they might spare me if I keep them entertained.
